Kara Killmer Leaving Chicago Fire in Latest #OneChicago Shake-Up
There’s going to be an opening on Chicago Fire‘s ambulance. Again.
Kara Killmer will return to the NBC drama in Season 12 — but it will be her last year as paramedic Sylvie Brett, TVLine has learned. The exact timetable/episode for her exit has not been revealed yet.
Killmer joined Fire in the Season 3 premiere, filling the void left by the death of Lauren German’s character, paramedic Leslie Shay. The actress has appeared in 193 episodes of Fire during her nine-season run, plus over two dozen installments of spinoffs Chicago Med and Chicago P.D.
As a medic at Firehouse 51, Brett had her share of partners on Ambulance 61, including Gabby Dawson and Peter Mills, before she was eventually promoted to Paramedic in Charge following the exit of her third partner, Chilli. (Others to ride alongside Brett included Jimmy Borrelli, Gabby again, and Gianna Mackey). Mostly recently, Brett worked alongside Violet Mikami.
On the relationship front, Brett has of late been in an on-and-off relationship with Matt Casey (played by former series regular Jesse Spencer). In the May 24 season finale, Casey popped the question to his ex-girlfriend, but the episode ended before she could give her answer. During Fire’s prolonged, strikes-impacted hiatus, it was announced that leading man Taylor Kinney will return as Lieutenant Kelly Severide for at least the start of Season 12. The actor took a leave of absence from the show in January to deal with a personal matter. Meanwhile, co-showrunner Andrea Newman will hold the post solo for the upcoming season, following co-showrunner/co-creator Derek Haas’ exit from the series in November 2022.

Chicago Fire Season 12 does not yet have a premiere date, but the firefighter drama is expected to return some time in early 2024 for a shortened 13-episode season following the conclusion of the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
In other #OneChicago news, Tracy Spiridakos, who plays detective Hailey Upton on Chicago P.D., will depart the cop drama after the upcoming 11th season.
