Jerome Tang’s search for incoming basketball transfers has taken an interesting turn.

The Kansas State head coach is currently targeting a pair of college teammates that both played against the Wildcats last season as conference rivals at West Virginia.

Joe Toussaint and Mohamed Wague have both entered their names into the NCAA transfer portal and they are both exploring their options in the wake of Bob Huggins’ recent resignation from the Mountaineers. Each of them are planning to visit K-State later this week.

The Wildcats have two available scholarships, so they could finalize their roster soon if both of them end up choosing K-State.

Toussaint would be a wise addition for the Wildcats. Tang has said for months that he wants to land another veteran guard who can score out of the transfer portal to pair with Tylor Perry and Cam Carter. Toussaint would fit that description perfectly. The 6-foot and 190-pound senior averaged 9.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists while playing in 34 games last season.

But he has been a solid contributor throughout his college career. He also played in nearly 100 games during his first three seasons at Iowa.

His late addition to the transfer portal makes him one of the top remaining players available.

K-State will face strong competition for his services. Toussaint told college basketball reporter Jon Rothstein that he will visit Texas Tech early on this week and then make the trek to K-State. After that, he plans to visit Alabama and participate in Zoom calls with Gonzaga and Miami. He is also reportedly considering a return to West Virginia now that Josh Eilert has been named interim coach.

It sounds like Toussaint will be in Manhattan at the same time as Wague.

The 6-foot-10 sophomore is considering his options after he averaged 4.1 points and 3.1 rebounds last season for the Mountaineers. Tang is interested in his game because Wague could bring valuable size and athleticism to the K-State front court.

He plans to visit Depaul early this week and then take a recruiting trip to K-State.

Both players were expected to play meaningful roles for West Virginia next season. Turns out, they could end up on another Big 12 team this summer.
