A man is dead after his vehicle struck the rear of a semi truck, slid and then caught on fire in Stanton County, Kansas Highway Patrol crash logs show.

The crash happened around 9:42 a.m. Monday on U.S. 160 about 5.5 miles west of Kansas Highway 27, the report says.

Dennis Davis, 57, of Pierceville, was heading west on U.S. 160 in a 2006 Chevy pickup truck when a semi truck in front of him was slowing down to turn north onto a service road. Dennis’ vehicle rear-ended the semi, veered off and came to a stop on the north shoulder of U.S. 160. His truck caught on fire with him inside, according to the report.

Dennis was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi, 33-year-old Zachary Wester of Moscow, was not injured, crash logs say.
