Kansas man, 69, dead after being struck by school bus at crosswalk Tuesday morning
A man died Tuesday morning when he was struck by a school bus in Clay County, according to Kansas Highway Patrol crash logs.
The incident happened around 6:39 a.m. at the intersection of 6th St. and Lincoln Ave in Clay Center. Harold Mugler, 69, of Clay Center, was crossing the street on Lincoln when he was struck by a school bus that was heading east on Lincoln approaching 6th St., the crash log said.
KHP Troopers were first notified of the School bus vs pedestrian crash at 7:03am.

The driver of the school bus, 71-year-old Brenda Peterson of Clay Center, failed to see Mugler in the crosswalk. Mugler died at the scene of the accident, according to the crash logs.
KHP trooper Ben Gardner said in a social media post that the collision did not happen in a school zone. The Clay Center school district said in a statement that the school bus had no students on board when it struck Mugler.
This morning a USD 379 school bus was involved in an accident with a pedestrian in Clay Center. No students were on the bus when the accident occurred. We are coordinating with local law enforcement and emergency personnel at this time.
