Kansas Jayhawks, K-State Wildcats take small step back in updated AP Top 25 rankings
Kansas, which defeated Kansas State at home and lost to Iowa State on the road, has fallen from No. 8 to No. 9 in the Associated Press men’s basketball Top 25.
Meanwhile, Kansas State, which went 0-2 last week in losing at KU and at home to Texas, dropped from No. 7 to No. 12 in the current poll, which was released on Monday.
Texas (19-4, 8-2), which will meet Kansas (18-5, 6-4) at 8 p.m. Monday at Allen Fieldhouse, moved from No. 10 to No. 5. The Longhorns have won four in a row in league play.
Texas won at home against Baylor and at K-State (18-5, 6-4) last week.
Purdue (22-2) remained No. 1 despite losing Saturday to Indiana 79-74. The Boilermakers, who received 38 first-place votes, are followed in the poll by No. 2 Houston (22-2), which received 22 first-place votes and No. 3 Alabama (20-3), which received one first-place vote.
Arizona (21-3), which received one first-place vote is No. 4, followed by No. 5 Texas, No. 6 Tennessee, No. 7 UCLA, No. 8 Virginia, No. 9 KU and No. 10 Marquette.
Iowa State is No, 11 followed by K-State, Xavier, Baylor, Saint Mary’s, Gonzaga, TCU, Indiana, Miami, and Providence in the top 20.
Rounding out the top 25: No. 21 UConn, No. 22 North Carolina State, No. 23 Creighton, No. 24 Rutgers and No. 25 San Diego State.
Others receiving votes: Florida Atlantic, Duke, Auburn, Clemson, Pittsburgh, Illinois, Nevada, New Mexico, Maryland, Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, West Virginia, Oral Roberts, Northwestern, Charleston, VCU, Utah State and Kentucky.
