Kansas football vs. Iowa State recap: Jayhawks capture another Big 12 Conference victory
AMES, Iowa — Kansas football’s 2023 season continued Saturday with a Big 12 Conference game on the road against Iowa State.
The No. 23 Jayhawks came in off of a win at home against Oklahoma. The Cyclones came in off of a win on the road against Baylor. During head coach Lance Leipold’s time in Lawrence, Kansas is 1-1 against Iowa State with a win at home and a loss on the road.
Did the Jayhawks exact some revenge for a crushing defeat in 2021 that happened on the road against the Cyclones? Was Iowa State able to top Kansas and knock Leipold and company out of the top 25? There was a sellout crowd in attendance.

Iowa State connects on a field goal
It's a one-possession game again, after Iowa State drove and connected on a field goal with 4:53 left in the fourth quarter. The field goal was from 29 yards out and cut Kansas' lead to 28-21. The drive took 2:58 off of the clock and went 64 yards in seven plays.

It's very quickly a two possession game again, as quarterback Jason Bean found wide receiver Lawrence Arnold for an 80-yard touchdown pass. Kansas is now up 28-18, after the extra point, with 7:51 left in the fourth quarter. The drive went 80 yards in one play and took 12 seconds off of the clock.
Iowa State draws closer
It's a one possession game now, as Iowa State has scored another touchdown. Quarterback Rocco Becht rushed it in from two yards out, and after the extra point Kansas' lead is down to 21-18 with 8:09 left in the fourth quarter. The drive took 6:59 off of the clock and went 90 yards in 12 plays.

Iowa State strikes back
The Cyclones have found the end zone for the first time tonight, on a six-yard rushing touchdown by running back Eli Sanders. After the two point conversion worked, the Jayhawks' lead is down to 21-11 with 3:26 left in the third quarter. The drive took 5:58 off of the clock and went 75 yards in nine plays.
Kansas extends its lead
The Jayhawks are now up 21-3 with 9:24 left in the third quarter, after a touchdown drive and the ensuing extra point. Running back Devin Neal scored on a rush from one yard out. The drive took 5:36 off of the clock and went 75 yards in 11 plays.

Iowa State scores for the first time
The Cyclones are on the scoreboard. Iowa State hit a 35-yard field goal just before halftime. The drive went 50 yards in seven plays and took 0:35 off of the clock.
Kansas scores a touchdown on an interception
Jayhawks cornerback Mello Dotson has an interception return for a touchdown in back-to-back games now, after his 50-yard return just now. After the extra point, Kansas leads 14-0 with 10:21 left in the second quarter. The pass went right to Dotson, and he went on to score with ease.

Kansas has taken a 7-0 lead with 8:40 left in the first quarter after a touchdown drive and the ensuing extra point. Running back Devin Neal found the end zone on a six-yard scamper. The drive lasted 4:32 and went 87 yards in nine plays.
