Kansas City police are asking for the public’s help in finding a truck involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash with a motorcycle Tuesday evening.

The crash happened Tuesday around 6:45 p.m. near U.S. Highway 40 and Phelps Road. A motorcycle was allegedly speeding on Highway 40 and appeared to have been racing a dark-colored SUV, police said. An “older model” white Ford F-150 pickup truck was making a left turn from Highway 40 onto Phelps Road when the motorcycle reportedly ran into the truck.

The motorcycle driver was ejected off their bike on impact, and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

In a news release, police said both the dark-colored SUV and white Ford truck left the scene of the collision. Highway 40 was closed at Phelps road for about two and a half hours.

Police said the truck will have heavy damage on the passenger side bed. It was last seen traveling south on Phelps.

No other suspect information was available for the SUV the motorcyclist was alleged to have been racing.

If anyone has any information, they are asked to contact the KCPD Traffic Division at 816-482-8180 or the anonymous TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
