Update: Kansas City Police reported Mitchell was found safe Wednesday afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol issued an endangered silver advisory for a 71-year-old former firefighter who went missing Wednesday morning in Kansas City.

Carolyn Mitchell was last seen at 10:05 a.m. leaving her home near 51st Street and Tracy Avenue on foot while she was having a manic episode, Kansas City Police said. Mitchell, who was the Kansas City Fire Department’s first Black female firefighter, left her home without her cellphone but does have her bank card.

She is 5 feet and 3 inches tall and weighs about 100 pounds. Mitchell has black hair in long dreadlocks and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a tan coat, red shirt, blue jeans and white shoes.

Mitchell is considered endangered because she has dementia.

Anyone who sees Mitchell or knows of her whereabouts should call 911 or the Kansas City Police Department at 816-234-5220.
