Kansas City Chiefs vs. Miami Dolphins: Relive our commentary from NFL game in Germany

Google made sure I knew “Guten Morgan” was the proper way to greet all of you, as the Kansas City Chiefs had an 8:30 a.m. Central clash with Tyreek Hill and the Miami Dolphins from Frankfurt, Germany

It was a fascinating matchup between two of the NFL’s best teams — one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time in Patrick Mahomes, and one of the NFL’s best-ever offenses led by Hill, the former Chief.

And it came down to ... the defense.

Yes, the Kansas City defense held Miami to two touchdowns and scored one of its own, leading Kansas City to a 21-14 win in Frankfurt. Bryan Cook earned the defensive score on a wild play in which Hill was stripped by Trent McDuffie, with the ball being recovered by Mike Edwards, who then flipped it to Cook on a lateral.

Mahomes did find Rashee Rice for a first-half touchdown, and he delivered another TD strike to Jerick McKinnon out of the backfield. But the KC offense didn’t do much from that point on, even in front of a friendly overseas crowd.

The Germany game, perhaps a surprising overseas matchup given the stature of the two teams, saw the Chiefs go up 21-0 and cling to that lead in what became a seven-point win. KC didn’t score an offensive point in the final 32 minutes of game time

As mentioned, there were plenty of Chiefs fans in Germany, and it was a KC-friendly affair overseas leading up to the game. Between the “ChampionShip” fan experience, which got a visit from Chiefs owner Clark Hunt and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, and a special Chiefs-themed Burger King, there were plenty of fun KC spots in and around Frankfurt.
