A wrist injury kept Chris Jones out of three Kansas City Chiefs games a year ago and he struggled at times after a temporary move to defensive end for part of the season.

Nevertheless, Jones had a team-best nine sacks, forced a fumble and recorded eight tackles for loss. He was chosen for the Pro Bowl and named second-team All-Pro.

The NFL has been releasing its ranking of the top 100 players piecemeal, and Nos. 21-50 were unveiled Sunday. That effort a year ago got Jones the No. 39 spot on the list, and he is the only Chiefs player to be ranked thus far.

As the NFL Network noted, this is the fourth straight year that Jones has made the top 100, although he did fall five spots from 2021.

Coral Smith of NFL Media wrote: “Jones earned his third straight Pro Bowl nod and led the Chiefs in QB hits (17) and sacks (9.0) in 2021, with the latter double any of his teammates. He also recorded 34 QB pressures and 16 QB hurries last season. Jones has been a solid veteran presence for a Chiefs defense that is still relatively young, and as Kansas City tries to continue its recent run of postseason success, Jones’ ability to pressure quarterbacks in the pocket will continue to be essential.”

There is a video about Jones with that story, and it includes clips of other NFL players talking about the Chiefs star.

“He is,” Saints safety Tyrann Mathieu said in the video, “one of the most talented big men I’ve ever been around.”
