Kamilla Cardosa talks about transfer to South Carolina: 'Best decision of my life'

Kamilla Cardosa made the right decision to transfer to South Carolina women's basketball. If you ask her, it was the best decision of her life.

Cardosa led the Gamecocks to their second national championship in three years on Sunday with a 15-point, 17-rebound, three-block performance against Catilin Clark and Iowa. With that, South Carolina finished the season 38-0, claiming the first undefeated season since UConn in 2016 with a 87-75 win vs. the Hawkeyes.

"Just making the best decision of my life, coming here to South Carolina to play for the best coaches in the nation, the best team and just being able to play for South Carolina," Cardosa said in a postgame interview.

The 6-foot-7 center averaged 14.3 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2.5 blocks per game on 59.8% shooting for the Gamecocks.

Cardosa started her career at Syracuse after being rated the No. 5 overall player by espnW in the talented 2020 recruiting class. Following one season with the Orange, she transferred to South Carolina, despite earning ACC Freshman of the Year and ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Year during the 2020-21 season.

Kamilla Cardosa in NCAA Tournament and postseason

Cardosa scored 15 points and 17 rebounds in the national championship game and 22 points and 11 rebounds in the victory over NC State in the Final Four semifinal. She averaged 16.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game during the NCAA Tournament.

She played nine minutes during the 2021-22 national championship win over UConn, scoring four points and three rebounds for the Gamecocks. Cardosa hit just one 3-pointer all season, but that came in the SEC Tournament semifinal, a buzzer-beating game-winner.
