Matt Nagy and the Chicago Bears took a huge chance on Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields in this year’s draft, trading up to the 11th pick in the first round just so they could select him.

In terms of talent, Fields is the best quarterback on Chicago’s roster. However, he’ll need time to learn Nagy’s system and really master the playbook.

During an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio this week, Fields discussed the early stages of his player-coach relationship with Nagy. It sounds like things are going well thus far.

“We’ve had multiple conversations on how he sees me fitting into this offense and fitting into his scheme,” Fields said. “We’re definitely excited for the future. My job, of course, is to come in here, work hard every day, and become the best player and the best quarterback I can be.”

Fields was also asked what he needs to work on in Chicago if he wants to become a more complete quarterback.

“I think there were a few things at Ohio State that we might not have done that multiple teams in the NFL are doing. I’m just kind of getting used to those things and I know the terminology is going to be different here when it comes to different concepts and different protections. I think once I get into the rhythm of learning that stuff and once I’m here for a period of time, I’ll pretty much have everything down.”

The sports world saw how dynamic Fields can be at quarterback throughout his time at Ohio State. If he can somehow improve his skillset, the rest of the NFL may be in trouble.

Fields will be on the field with the rest of the Bears’ 2021 draft class this weekend, as rookie minicamps are officially underway.
