Junior Orange Bowl Basketball Classic this week in Miami. Plus basketball and soccer results

The Orange Bowl college football game between Clemson and Tennessee on Dec. 30 won’t be the only big OB event in South Florida this week.

There will plenty of other Orange Bowl activities leading up to the game, and one of those will be the 34th annual Junior Orange Bowl Basketball Classic which is Wednesday, Dec. 28 through Friday, Dec. 30 at Westminster Christian, 6855 SW 152nd St., Pinecrest.

For the boys, five local high school teams will be participating: Miami Norland, Mater Lakes, St. Brendan, Gulliver Prep. and host Westminster Christian. Three out of state teams will also be in the field, Archbishop Carroll (Pennsylvania), Hedgesville (West Virginia) and Lakota West (Ohio).

On the girls side, leading the way will be defending 7A state champion Miami High along with four other South Florida teams: Homestead Somerset Silver Palms, Hollywood South Broward, Miami Norland and Miami Palmer Trinity. Out of town teams will be Peachtree Ridge (Georgia), Lovejoy (Georgia) and Colegio Adianez (Puerto Rico).

The two championship games are Friday, Dec. 30 at 6:30 p.m. (girls) and 8 p.m. (boys).

“We’re extremely proud of the tradition of community service that our teams have shared over the years in all of these events,” said Junior Basketball Committee Chairman Chuck Little. “We’re once again looking forward to some great activities.”
