Junior hockey: Strong performance in net helps Jr. Comets top Twin City Thunder

Nov. 11—Waylon Esche simply shut down the Twin City Thunder on Saturday night.

The Utica Jr. Comets goalie stopped 33 shots to earn a 2-0 shutout victory at Norway Savings Bank Arena in a USPHL NCDC game.

After a scoreless first period, Louie Kamienski scored midway through the second to give Utica a 1-0 lead when the puck got past Thunder goalie Jeffrey Kreidler.

Joseph Arnold scored 13 minutes into the third period for his first goal of the season for the Comets.

Marc Lafrance and Wyatt Swonger each had an assist for Utica.

Kreidler made 36 saves in the loss.

The teams meet again at Norway Savings Bank Arena on Sunday at 1 p.m. where Utica goes for the weekend sweep after defeating the Thunder 3-2 in overtime Friday night.
