Former New England Patriots Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola built a close bond during their time catching passes from Tom Brady. Edelman retired during the offseason, while Amendola landed with a new team this week.

On Wednesday, the Houston Texans, which feature a number of former Patriots staffers in the front office, added the veteran Amendola. He joins the team just ahead of the 2021 season, after two years with the Detroit Lions.

He joins a ragtag wide receiver corps, including another former Patriot—Brandin Cooks—veterans Anthony Miller, Andre Roberts, Chris Conley, and rookie Nico Collins. They’ll be catching passes from Tyrod Taylor, with Deshaun Watson sidelined due to his ongoing legal issues.

“Dola has always been able to pick up a ball, racket, stick, or paddle and be the most talented in the room,” Edelman wrote on Instagram after the Danny Amendola news. “Congrats on year 14 bubs. I truly do not know how you do it. #TexasRoadtrip”

Danny Amendola spent five years (2013-17) with the New England Patriots, winning Super Bowl XLIX and Super Bowl LI. He caught at least 50 passes for over 600 yards in three of his five Patriots seasons.

Edelman played his entire 12-year career in New England, after being drafted by the team in 2009. Last year, he was held to just six games and one start due to injuries.

Amendola’s new team, the Houston Texans, open the season at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday, Sept. 12. Kickoff for that game is at 1 p.m. ET.
