Joy Behar makes risque sex joke on ‘The View,’ then walks it back

No need for an instant replay to reverse this call.

“The View” co-host Joy Behar penalized herself for making an off-color joke about gay sex Tuesday, while the panel was discussing Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Carl Nassib being the first active NFL player to come out as gay. In a rare consensus agreement, all five women on the stage supported Nassib, though Behar — admitting she knows nothing about football — couldn’t resist throwing a hot potato into the huddle.

“After they said penetration in the end zone, they lost me,” Behar joked.

Behar’s morning show co-hosts, including conservative Meghan McCain, didn’t want to go anywhere near that comment. Asking if it was a big deal for a player to be openly gay in 2021, Behar, who was moderating the discussion, passed the ball to McCain, with whom she frequently bickers.

“I think it’s fantastic he’s coming out, fantastic that he’s comfortable doing it in Pride Month, I hope it’s a step forward,” McCain said.

The conservative daughter of the late Arizona Sen. John McCain also gave a shout-out to runner Sha’Carri Richardson — who has a girlfriend — and will be representing the U.S. at the Tokyo Olympics next month. She’s got a good shot at walking away with a gold medal.

Behar later tried to take back her joke, perhaps realizing it was better suited for a comedy club than a network TV program.

“By the way, that inappropriate joke I made for daytime television, scratch it,” the comic said. “Make believe I never said it.”

On the previous day’s show, Behar seemed to take a jab at McCain by implying that conservatives like her send mixed messages when they oppose abortion rights and support the death penalty. McCain responded on social media Monday, stating sarcastically that it was “groundbreaking” that she, as a conservative, would oppose abortion. On Tuesday though, the pair of pundits were on the same team.

Joy Behar follows Meghan McCain statement by charging ‘some people’ are ‘inconsistent’ with their views on the sanctity of life

McCain has spoken in favor of LGBTQ rights in the past, including a 2012 tweet where she made her position very clear.

“I‘m a Republican who believes in gay marriage,” she wrote. “If that’s too complicated for you to wrap your head around, you’re the close-minded one.”
