Joni Mitchell made a surprise appearance at one of the most prestigious amphitheaters over the weekend, with a special performance joined by Brandi Carlile and Annie Lennox.

The 79-year-old Grammy winner sat in between the two musicians as they performed three songs during the Saturday, Oct. 14, concert at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl.

According to numerous reports, the trio performed three of Mitchell's biggest hits, including "Circle Game," "Ladies of the Canyon," and “Shine” (which is 42-year-old Carlile’s favorite song by the Canadian-born singer-songwriter, according to Rolling Stone).

As for how Mitchell's pop-up performance came to be, well, it appears Carlile–who also covered Mitchell's "Woodstock" earlier on in the show–invited the legendary musician to join her on stage.

"Joni, it’s such a joy to be sitting here with you. Thank you for doing this with me,” Carlile shared during the concert. “You make me feel so cool. I really owe you one."

Though Carlile joked that she won't "get too used to asking for favors," she's put in enough effort to cash in on at least a few asks, as "The Story" songstress has spent the past five years performing tribute concerts, helping to organize the singer's archival series, and through it all, became close friend's with Mitchell.

Though bringing out the iconic multi-instrumentalist was surely a treat for those in the audience, it's not the first time Carlile and Mitchell have linked up on tour.

Last July, Mitchell shocked fans with another surprise performance at Rhode Island's Newport Folk Festival alongside Carlile. The event marked Mitchell's first full-length public concert in more than 20 years, and the singer's first concert since suffering an aneurysm back in March 2015. The two also joined forces for a concert four months ago, commemorating Mitchell's first headliner in nearly two decades.
