Jonesville Fall Sports Review: student athletes recognized in annual awards banquet
JONESVILLE — The Jonesville High School staff and coaches recognized the achievements of their student athletes from the fall sports season with their annual awards banquet.
These are the highlight achievements and awards that student-athletes at Jonesville High School received this year for their efforts in the 2023 fall sports season from their peers, leagues and coaches associations.

JHS Sportsmanship Award
The Sportsmanship Award honors student-athletes, who through their action in the competitive arena, have demonstrated one or more of the ideals of sportsmanship, including fairness, civility, honesty, unselfishness, respect and responsibility.
This year's honorees were Hailey Russell - Sideline Cheer; Nicholas Fowler - Boys Cross Country; Kendahl Drake - Girls Cross Country; Blake Ryan - J.V. prep football; Tyler Milks - prep football; Marshall Baker - Soccer; Hannah Young - J.V. Volleyball and Morgan Wood - prep volleyball.

Academic All-Conference Honorees
Sideline Cheer - Sarah Alspaugh, Alaina Barrett, Ariel Brandon, Emma Caldwell, Kylie Campbell, Victoria Jemes, Ashley Martin, Hailey Russell, Serenity Smiertka
Boys Cross Country - David Fowler, Jacob Norman, Carter Rounds, Gavin VanKampen
Football - Austin Bowers, Tyler Milks, Damon Newell, Fisher Potts, Isaac Shively, Brady Stanton, Connor VanBuskirk
Soccer - Carter Baker, Warrick Elder, Mytchal Morrison
Volleyball - Kylie Campbell, Alexis Ewing, Gracen Hager, Lyra Nichols, Mackenzie Plum, Brooke Sharp
Academic All-State and All-District
Two cross country runners - Gavin VanKampen and Nicholas Fowler - received individual Academic All-State honors this season. The Jonesville varsity boys cross country team also earned Academic All-State. Members include Caleb Blonde, Zachery Childress, David Fowler, Nicholas Fowler, Collin Fucile, Jacob Norman and Gavin Van Kampen.
The MIVCA announced their individual Academic All-State honorees, and Comet volleyball athletes Kylie Campbell, Alexis Ewing, Gracen Hager and Lyra Nichols all earned honors. The Comet varsity volleyball team also earned Academic All-State honors as a group. Members include Natalynn Beach, Kylie Campbell, Alexis Ewing, Carley Graves, Gracen Hager, Haley Mach, Lyra Nichols, Mackenzie Plum, Brooke Sharp and Morgan Wood.
The MIHSSCA named Carter Baker and Warrick Elder as Academic All-District honorees. The Comet boys varsity soccer team was named Academic All-District. Members of the team include Carter Baker, Donovan Baker, Marshall Baker, Wyatt Brooks, Logan Church, Bret Cole, Carsen Cornila, Kyle Covey, Warrick Elder, Ryan Marcavage, Cameron Moore, Talon Moore, Jeremiah Morrison, Mytchal Morrison, Caleb Morts, Austyn Strachan, Jaren Trujillo and Cole Trumper.
All-District and All-Region
The MIHSSCA named Warrick Elder and Ryan Marcavage as All-District soccer players for 2023.
After helping earn a boys regional championship, cross country runners Gavin VanKampen, Caleb Blonde and Nicholas Fowler placed in the top 15 to earn All-Region honors.
The MIVCA named senior volleyball player Gracen Hager an All-Region honoree for the 2023 season.
Cascades Cross Country All-Conference
After helping the Comets earn a co-share of the Cascades Conference title after winning the championship race, several boys runners earned All-Conference honors for their final results.

Caleb Blonde, David Fowler, Nicholas Fowler and Gavin VanKampen all earned first-team honors. Collin Fucile and Jacob Norman both earned second-team honors.
For the girls cross country team, Karly Page earned second team All-Conference honors.
Cascades Football All-Conference
The Jonesville varsity football team received multiple All-Conference honorees for the 2023 season.
Junior Carson Playford earned honorable mention honors for linebacker. Senior Linebacker Austin Bowers earned first team All-Conference honors. Junior defensive lineman Scotty Aube earned first team All-Conference honors.
Offensively, senior Brady Stanton earned first team All-Conference honors for the center position. Junior Cooper Stevens earned first team All-Conference honors for offensive tackle.
Cascades Soccer All-Conference
The Jonesville varsity boys soccer team had four athletes named to the Cascades conference team for their first season in the league.
Carter Baker and Marshall Baker both received second team honors. Warrick Elder and Ryan Marcavage both earned first team honors.
Cascades Volleyball All-Conference
Two members of the Comet volleyball team received All-Conference honors for their first-ever season of Cascades Volleyball.
Senior Alexis Ewing received honorable mention honors. Senior Gracen Hager received first team honors.

Fall Sports Highlighted Moments
In addition to winning their first playoff game since 2016, the Comet varsity boys soccer team captain - Senior Warrick Elder - set an MHSAA record for six goals in a game.

Freshman Caleb Blonde set a school record for freshman cross country boys times with a 16:35.5. The previous record holder was Carson Laney, who set a time of 16:52 in 2016.
The boys cross country team finished the year with a Cascades Co-Conference championship, a regional championship and an eighth-place team finish at the State Finals.
