Jonathan Scott Teases ‘Pretty Intimate’ Wedding with Zooey Deschanel — And How They'll Celebrate After (Exclusive)

The HGTV star shared some wedding updates while chatting exclusively with PEOPLE about his new show ‘Backed by the Bros’ that he hosts with brother Drew Scott

Wedding bells will soon be ringing for Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel!

While chatting exclusively with PEOPLE about Backed by the Bros — HGTV’s upcoming real estate series starring Jonathan and his twin brother Drew — the Celebrity IOU star opened up about the multiple wedding celebrations he plans on holding with his fiancée.

“We know that the most important thing for us is to be surrounded by our loved ones,” Jonathan, 46, tells PEOPLE of their big day. “And we're not planning to do a crazy, extravagant wedding. It's going to be pretty intimate.”

He adds that after the first, smaller ceremony happens, he and Deschanel plan on hosting a second festivity.

“We will probably throw another party just for friends here locally,” Jonathan says. The couple are based in Los Angeles and live in their 1938 “dream home” that they renovated in 2022 together.

Despite teasing the location of the wedding in a funny Instagram Reel in April, Jonathan admits that he and Deschanel still “haven't nailed down exactly when and where” the wedding will be.

In the midst of planning the milestone event, Jonathan revealed he was recently “spoiled” by his fiancée in celebration of his 46th birthday on April 28.

“Zooey is filming a movie in North Carolina, so I flew out there and she spoiled me and filled my day with great food, escape rooms and antique things,” he tells PEOPLE.

The Property Brothers star documented the special day in a sweet Instagram Reel on April 29 in which the pair are seen sharing a meal together, posing in the escape room and snapping a quick selfie at the antique store.

Jonathan and the Elf star, 44, first met while filming an episode of Carpool Karaoke with Drew and Deschanel’s sister Emily in 2019.

After four years of dating, Jonathan officially popped the question while the pair were enjoying a family vacation in Scotland in August 2023. Deschanel's two children — daughter Elsie, 8, and son Charlie, 6 — also played a role in the special moment.

After their fairytale moment, the couple shared a joint post on Instagram with the caption, "Forever starts now.” In the photo, both Deschanel and Jonathan are all smiles as they pose at the foot of a stone castle while Deschanel proudly holds up her engagement ring.
