Here’s how Johnson County residents can get a free ride to the Chiefs Super Bowl parade

A free shuttle service will be available Wednesday to help Johnson County residents travel to and from the Chiefs Super Bowl victory parade.

Shuttle service will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Oak Park Mall park-and-ride location, 11149 West 95th St. in Overland Park. The pickup location is south of Hillcrest Bank and northeast of Macy’s.

Passengers should park at the mall and walk to the RideKC and yellow school buses, which will drop them off at the intersection of 25th Street and Southwest Boulevard in downtown Kansas City.

The final ride to the parade will leave the mall at 11 a.m. Trips returning to Johnson County start at noon and continue until 4:30 p.m.

Parade goers should expect significant wait times to board the shuttles. Traffic could cause trips to take at least 90 minutes.

All other RideKC transit services will be suspended Wednesday. Freedom and SWIFT service and Johnson County Micro Transit will continue operating, but Micro Transit will not serve the parade area.

The festivities kick off with a parade starting at noon at Grand Boulevard and Sixth Street. It’ll travel south on Grand until it reaches Pershing Road, when the parade will turn right and head toward Union Station.

A victory rally will start at Union Station at 1:45 p.m., and the National WWI Museum and Memorial will host viewing opportunities on its north lawn.

Forecasts ahead of the parade show it should be a cool, dry day with a mild breeze.

“Wednesday is looking like a great day for a parade,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Pamela Pietrycha.

Public alcohol consumption is banned at the event, which officials said is family friendly. Attendees were encouraged to travel light and not carry any bags or backpacks.
