Johnson County Applebee’s closed. Chick-fil-A wants to knock it down and take the spot

Chick-fil-A has filed an application with the city of Shawnee to build a restaurant on the site of a former Applebee’s Grill and Bar.

The fast-food chicken chain wants to demolish the building at 11500 W. 63rd St. to make room for its own 2,700-square-foot restaurant with a drive-thru and outdoor patio.

Chick-fil-A’s request will be discussed at the Shawnee Planning Commission’s meeting Monday evening.

Applebee’s closed its Shawnee location in May after 33 years.

Chick-fil-A was founded in Hapeville, Georgia, in 1946 and sells chicken sandwiches, nuggets, wraps, waffle fries and more.

The closest location to the Shawnee spot is in Mission at 6039 Metcalf Ave. Chick-fil-A currently has seven locations in Johnson County.
