Johnson Co. schools announce cancellations ahead of storm expected to bring nearly a foot of snow

A snowstorm expected to dump nearly a foot of snow throughout Johnson County has prompted a number of cancellations and postponements.

Widespread accumulation and hazardous conditions are possible throughout the state Monday into Tuesday, with the Iowa City area predicted to weather the brunt of it.

Several school districts have already announced cancelations and delays, including:

Iowa Community City School District has canceled all classes on Tuesday, Jan. 9. All buildings and district offices will be closed and all activities are canceled. The school board meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening is postponed until next week, Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Lone Tree Community School District has canceled all classes on Tuesday, Jan. 9. All buildings and district offices will be closed and all activities are canceled.

The Solon Community School District has canceled all classes on Tuesday. All buildings and district offices will be closed and all activities are canceled.

Iowa City Regina has also canceled all of Tuesday's classes, closing all district and school buildings while evening activities have been canceled as well.

Classes in the Clear Creek Amana school district have been canceled for Tuesday, Jan. 9. All buildings and district offices will be closed, and all extracurricular activities have been canceled.
