John Stamos Teases a Lori Loughlin Romance Almost Happened

Lori Loughlin, John Stamos

Have mercy! Full House co-stars John Stamos and Lori Loughlin were nearly a real-life couple back in the day, according to the former's new memoir.

Among the topics the actor discusses in his book, If You Would Have Told Me, is the relationship with his former on-screen wife—which at one point was "on the precipice of turning romantic," he wrote, per People.

In his memoir, Stamos described his connection with Loughlin as a "sort of true friendship that’s supposed to be the foundation of a great, lasting relationship." He also shared that he felt the beginnings of a romance blossoming between them.

So, what changed?

In 1994, Stamos and Loughlin attended the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show after party (as friends) when Stamos met Rebecca Romijin, his now ex-wife. That's when he recognized the decision at hand when it came to his love life: wait and see what happens with Loughlin or pursue the model.

“In my mind it was like … the two Sandys in Grease!” Stamos told InStyle for an article published on Oct. 23.

Of course, Stamos picked Romijin; they married in September 1998 before splitting in 2004. He tied the knot with Caitlin McHugh Stamos in 2018, and the couple shares one son, Billy Stamos, who was born in April of the same year.

Meanwhile, Loughlin has been married to Mossimo Giannulli since 1997.

Through the years, Stamos and Loughlin—who portrayed husband-wife duo Jesse and Rebecca on Full House—have publicly supported each other during difficult times. Like when Loughlin and Giannulli were convicted in and served time for a college admissions bribery scandal in 2020.

"I am going to say this, and she said I could. She wasn't really the architect of any of it — she was in the way background," Stamos said on the Armchair Expert podcast in November 2022. "She didn't know what was going on."

The actor-musician also stressed to host Dax Shepard that Loughlin has taken steps to try and make up for her part in the scandal.

"She also paid a lot of money," he said. "She set up a college fund for kids and she went to f---ing jail man."
