It’s hard not to love John Legend and Chrissy Teigen together. The power couple of 13 years has a one-of-a-kind relationship full of laughs and love songs. Today, the singer continues to be inspired by his wife and children, culminating in his latest album, Bigger Love, which was nominated for Best R&B album at the 63rd annual Grammy Awards.

John and Chrissy first met in 2006 on the music video set of "Stereo." According to the musician, he first heard about Chrissy through a mutual friend, who suggested casting the model as his love interest. Turns out, the chemistry between them was undeniable.

"The shoot was pretty up close and personal, and I got to know her big personality — she's very fun, very clever, very gregarious," John recalled to Martha Stewart Weddings. "It's not the normal way to court someone, but hey, it worked."

When the shoot was over, things really heated up.

"We did the music video, we were together for like 12 hours," she said on The Wendy Williams Show in 2014. "We spent the entire day together, me in my underwear, him in a full suit. I went to go say goodbye to him [at] his hotel and we didn't ever say goodbye that night."

Despite hitting it off right away, Chrissy chose to “play it cool for a long time.” The cookbook author said she and John continued on with their separate lives but made sure to stay in touch.

John later revealed that he began falling in love with Chrissy through their constant text exchanges that showed “how engaging and witty and funny she [was].” By February 2007, the two officially became a couple.

Years later, Chrissy opened up to Cosmopolitan about the one time John tried breaking up with her early on in their relationship. The Sports Illustrated model went on tour with the singer, who got sick. After canceling a show, John was understandably upset and came to the conclusion that he’d be better off single. Thankfully, Chrissy said the breakup only lasted "one day" (according to John, it was "less than half an hour"). To this day, Chrissy still pokes fun at her man for his “big mistake.

Then, while on a Christmas trip to the Maldives in 2011, John proposed to Chrissy on a beach. The two had actually gotten into a tiff on their way to the airport and TSA almost ruined the surprise. Security was going through John’s carry-on bag and wanted to open the box where he had hidden the engagement ring. Luckily, he wasn’t forced to propose at the airport, and Chrissy later got the opportunity to find the ring herself.

“We get to the Maldives and he had planned this beautiful Christmas,” she said on the FABLifeShow in 2015. “He knows how much I love Christmas … This waiter comes out with a silver dome for dessert … He opens up the dome and a ton of arugula falls out and then I kind of fish in it … I see the little box and then you know, your heart stops and you get so excited … There was no big, grand speech or anything. I think it was just very lovely and sweet.”

On September 10, 2013, Chrissy and John tied the knot at a New York City courthouse with model Irina Shayk as their witness. Shortly after, on September 14, 2013, the two walked down the aisle in Lake Como, Italy. "One of the first vacations we took together was to Lake Como, so we thought it would be nice to marry where we fell in love," John told Martha Stewart Weddings.

On April 14, 2016, Chrissy gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Luna. Two years later, on May 17, 2018, the couple welcomed their second child, a son named Miles.

In August 2020, Chrissy and John confirmed they were expecting their third baby. John released a music video for his song "Wild" and at the very end, it shows Chrissy cradling her stomach as John holds her.

On September 30, 2020, Chrissy shared that she and John had lost the baby due to pregnancy complications. She had been on bed rest and experiencing excessive bleeding from her placenta. Chrissy and John were expecting a baby boy who they began calling Jack.

On social media, Chrissy thanked everyone for their support during this difficult time. "We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience. But everyday can’t be full of sunshine. On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it."

In mid-October, John delivered a powerful performance of his song "Never Break" at the Billboard Music Awards and dedicated the song to Chrissy.

"This is for Chrissy. I love and cherish you and our family so much," John wrote alongside an Instagram of his performance. "We’ve experienced the highest highs and lowest lows together. Watching you carry our children has been so moving and humbling. I’m in awe of the strength you’ve shown through the most challenging moments. What an awesome gift it is to be able to bring life into the world. We’ve experienced the miracle, the power and joy of this gift, and now we’ve deeply felt its inherent fragility."

His post continued, "I wrote this song because I have faith that as long as we walk this earth, we will hold each other’s hands through every tear, through every up and down, through every test. We promised each other this on our wedding day seven years ago, and every challenge we’ve faced has made that promise more powerful, more resilient. Our love will remain. We will never break."
