Joey Lawrence Says Brother Matt 'Accepts' His Romance Advice amid Relationship with Chilli (Exclusive)

"Romance is a tricky thing," the former 'Blossom' stars tells PEOPLE

Matthew Lawrence isn’t opposed to taking his brother Joey’s advice in the romance department.

Joey, 47, exclusively tells PEOPLE that his younger brother Matthew, 44, is open to his advice about his relationship with Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas.

“He accepts [my advice],” the 47-year-old actor tells PEOPLE. "Look, I've made my fair share of mistakes. Romance is a tricky thing, you know.”

“Matt's in a very good spot and very happy,” adds Joey. “That's all I would hope you know for them.”

Joey also shares that the two brothers go on double dates with their respective significant others. “We go see movies, and then we just hang out, we play board games, you know, boring stuff, but fun,” shares the former Blossom star.

Joey married his now-wife, Samantha Cope, in May 2022. And Chilli's rep confirmed their romance to PEOPLE in January 2023, sharing that the couple connected romantically ahead of Thanksgiving 2022.

Late last month, Joey told Page Six that he hopes his brother will find his "happily ever after" with the TLC group member.

"It's pretty neat," Joey shared at the time. "At the end of the day, it's about being happy, right? You just try to find somebody that you could be happy with. So I'm happy that my brother's happy and that Chilli and he are happy together. That's all you hope for, no matter what happens, one way or another [because] you don't know."

"She's fantastic. We have great conversations, and it is really neat," said Joey, adding that his brother's relationship with the singer is "really cool."

In April 2023, Chilli confessed in a conversation with PEOPLE that she considers Matthew her "perfect" partner.

"I love everything about him. I love him and I like him, and that's important. That is so important. You know what I mean? I like everything about him, every little thing," she said.

The following month, she gave an update on their relationship to PEOPLE, sharing, "To this day, we have not had one argument. I'm like 'Matthew, it's gonna happen one day, cause we're going to be together forever.'"

She also told PEOPLE that their moms have become fast friends. "Matthew and I are both like, 'Boy when they get together, we're going to have to have security 'cause they're going to be out of control.' They're foxy hot girls," said Chilli.

Joey isn't the only family member to celebrate the couple’s relationship. The singer’s son, Tron Austin, shared with PEOPLE in April 2023 that he likes seeing his mother happy. “I love seeing humans connect and witnessing that genuineness. I feel that from him," said Austin, who married wife Jeong Ah Wang in December 2022.

"I wish them all the best and I think he's a great guy," he added. "I'm really happy for her."
