Every single day, we get more evidence that there is no way the Ben Simmons-76ers partnership can work anymore. Take today’s quotes from Joel Embiid.

Simmons, who made his return to Philadelphia last week, was thrown out of practice today by head coach Doc Rivers. Rivers called Simmons, who was also suspended one game by the team, “a distraction.”

After practice, Embiid was even harsher, telling reporters he has not spoken with Simmons since the former No. 1 overall pick returned to the team. Embiid also said it is not the 76ers’ job to “babysit somebody.”

To top it off, the star big man flat out said he doesn’t care about Simmons at this point.

Yeah, Philly is going to have to find a trade partner, any trade partner, for Simmons at this point. There was some hope that despite the Australian southpaw’s reported desire to play elsewhere, once Simmons actually returned to the team things would be better.

Clearly, they are not, and that’s an understatement. The 76ers did themselves no favors by tanking Simmons’ trade value with some of their comments about him after the playoffs, but at this point, getting whatever they can in return is better than the alternative.
