Joel Embiid 70-point game: Former Kansas star breaks Sixers scoring record in win over Spurs

Former Kansas basketball star and current Philadelphia 76ers forward Joel Embiid made NBA history on Monday night.

Eighteeen years to the day after Kobe Bryant's 81-point game, Embiid scored 70 points — becoming only the ninth NBA player ever to do so — in the Sixers' 133-123 win over the San Antonio Spurs. The 2023 NBA MVP shot 24 of 41 on the night while making 21 of 23 free-throw attempts along with 18 rebounds.

En route to his career-high scoring effort, Embiid also broke the 76ers record for most points in a single game, which was previously held by Wilt Chamberlain. He holds the NBA record for single-game points (100) but did so with the Philadelphia Warriors.
