Joe Maddon got a mohawk to try and snap Angels’ losing streak, but was fired that same day

Joe Maddon pulled out a classic bit to motivate his players out of a 12-game slump earlier this month.

Yet nobody got to see it.

Maddon, according to ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian, got a mohawk to surprise the Los Angeles Angels amid their 12-game losing skid last week. Before anyone could see the 68-year-old’s new haircut, he was fired.

The timing is incredible and horrendous all at the same time — especially considering that general manager Perry Minasian presumably had to look at Maddon while he had the mohawk and fire him face-to-face moments after seeing the haircut for the first time.

Very few people seem to have actually seen Maddon’s haircut and photos of it haven’t surfaced. By now, it’s almost certainly gone.

The Angels’ losing skid snapped two days after Maddon was fired, and he seemed to take the news well, all things considered.

“I’m doing really well. I mean that sincerely, don’t feel bad for me,” Maddon said, via the Los Angeles Times’ Mike DiGiovanna. “I’m good … I went for a bike ride, playing golf tomorrow morning at 9:15 a.m. … I told Perry he had to do what he has to do. Don’t feel bad for me.”

Hey, good effort.
