Joe Exotic pulls out all the stops for pardon, begs Trump for mercy

Joe Exotic is hoping the ultimate executive decision springs him from behind bars.

The Oklahoma zookeeper and subject of the riveting Netflix documentary “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” who is serving a 22-year prison stint for hiring a hitman to snuff out rival Carole Baskin, is seeking a full pardon from President Trump.

The convict, whose real name is Joseph Maldonado-Passage, filed his application Tuesday, reported The Associated Press.

In his 257-page petition, the 57-year-old convict maintains his innocence. Among the contents are trial documents, character references and letters of support.

“Joseph is scheduled to be released from (prison) custody in 2037; however, with his comprised health, he will likely die in prison,” wrote his attorneys. “He humbly requests a pardon to correct the injustices he has experienced and to have the opportunity to return to providing meaningful contributions to his community.”

In a rambling, handwritten note, Maldonado-Passage even directly appeals to President Trump for mercy.

“I am begging you to listen to the millions who see the truth. I 'm asking you to listen to your own son Donald Jr. and make this right and grant me a miracle ‘a pardon’ and let me put this behind me and go save my dad he is 86 and go live my life with my husband ‘Dillon,’” reads one stream-of-conscience section.

That note is expected to be delivered to Trump on Thursday, according to CBS News.

After Maldonado-Passage’s conviction in 2019 for attempted murder as well as multiple counts of falsifying wildlife records and violating the Endangered Species Act for killing five tigers, he was sentenced to the lengthy punishment in January, noted NBC News at the time.

During sentencing, the court heard a recorded impact statement read by Baskin that she uploaded on YouTube.

“If (Maldonado-Passage) completes his sentence and is released, we will end up spending the rest of our lives, constantly looking over shoulders, for a threat to our lives,” Baskin warned.
