Gavin & Stacey's Joanna Page has responded to rumours of a 2024 Christmas special.

It's been five years since we last saw Gavin, Stacey, Nessa, Smithy, Mick, Pam and Uncle Bryn on our screens, and the 2019 proposal cliffhanger still drives fans crazy even today, so when star Page joined The One Show this week it was a foregone conclusion that the sitcom's reported return would be addressed.

"I don't know anything at all," she told presenters Jermaine Jenas and Alex Jones. "I've got no other information, sorry, I've got no exciting information."

Earlier on, Jones had asked whether it's nice to be associated with a character, referring to Page's Stacey Shipman.

"I think it is because you know when you go to drama school, you just wanna act, you just wanna work," she replied, "and then to come out and do a job and be known for something that the public have liked and everything, it's just really lovely.

"So yeah I'm really pleased with it."

This comes shortly after Gavin & Stacey co-creator/star Ruth Jones rubbished reports of a "bidding war going on between the BBC and Netflix" for the show's next phase.

"I love it because it says 'a source says'. You know, who is this source? Where does this stuff come from?" she said. "James [Corden] and I went for lunch when he came back from America, we went for lunch in London a few months ago and we got papped. And then the next thing it's 'Oh my God, they must be writing more Gavin & Stacey', which is lovely.

"It's lovely that people love it and they're so desperate for it. Because like, imagine if it was the opposite, and they were like: 'Oh God they're not bringing that back'."

Gavin & Stacey series 1-3 are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
