Joanna Gaines is well acquainted with the often stressful moving process. The Fixer Upper star revealed she’s lived in 12 homes since having kids during a chat with fellow design expert Jeremiah Brent on the Ideas of Order podcast. For more about her mind-boggling moving record, and why her family finally settled down at their farm, read on.

The Magnolia Network mogul’s farmhouse located in the Crawford suburb of Waco, Texas, is the 12th house her family has lived in since she and her husband Chip had their first kid in 2005. The couple moved into their current home in 2013, making it the longest place they've lived in since starting their family. Gaines explained: “Up until the farmhouse, we lived in maybe eight or nine different homes cause Chip and I were flipping houses and then we’d be like, ‘Let's put this one for sale. Let’s buy another,’ and that was our life. And then we moved to the farm, and that’s when Fixer Upper entered into our lives. And we haven’t moved since.”

Gaines continued to reflect on how landing at her current property was practically fate. “I feel like what we didn't know at the time, but now we know today, is this place was meant for our family as this beautiful retreat,” she said, noting that all of their previous homes were in neighborhoods.

Although the Gaineses loved neighborhood living with block parties and a community of friendly folks, the farmhouse acts as a true escape. “There was something about this season in life—that 10 years of a whirlwind of lots of crazy and exciting things happening,” she continued. “We needed this [farmhouse] to ground us.”

When it comes to a history of moving around a lot, the Gaines family isn’t alone. “We’ve moved 10 times in 10 years,” Brent shared during the interview. The designer and podcast host recently wrote a book exploring why many people stay put in one home and said that it's his dream to live somewhere for 20 years that his kids could always visit. “I don’t know if I’m capable of it, but you’re worse than I am, so this is very exciting for me," Brent added.

While the Gaineses have certainly moved a lot, it seems like they're not leaving their farmhouse any time soon. With a main residence full of charm on a serene 40-acre lot, we can't blame them!
