Joan Rivers' Daughter Melissa to Marry Again 20 Years After Divorce

Melissa Rivers

Joan Rivers' only child, 55-year-old Melissa Rivers, is officially getting married again—two decades after her divorce from ex-husband John Endicott in 2003.

The bride-to-be revealed that she got engaged to attorney Steve Mitchel last month, telling People, “It’s a big step for both for us and I’m still in complete and total shock, even a month later, but beyond happy."

She also assuredly told the publication what she thinks her mother would think of her fiancé, saying, "And more importantly, my mom would have approved of the ring. Oh yeah, and of Steve too!”

In photos shared with People, Rivers showed off her 5.6-carat diamond ring, with one huge emerald-cut stone in the middle with an additional diamond on each side. Another photo showed Rivers and Mitchel posing together and smiling.

Before Rivers—who starred on Fashion Police with her mother over the years—even confirmed her engagement, she flaunted her new jewelry over the weekend at BravoCon in New York City, getting everyone talking.

Speaking with People about how she met her fiancé, Rivers said, “I’m the Co-Chairman of the board. He was there as a friend’s plus one. It’s not often that a total stranger comes up to me and just starts talking. We’ve been together now for about a year and a half.”

The 55-year-old was previously married to horse trainer Endicott from 1998 to 2003, and they share a son named Edgar Cooper Endicott. While she has had serious relationships with others, including Jason Zimmerman and Mark Rousso, over the years, it appears that it wasn't until now that she honestly wanted to get married again.

Rivers said of her stance on marriage over the years, "It’s something that I never believed in my heart of hearts that I would ever do. But, apparently hell freezes over and pigs do fly. I didn’t see it coming and it’s really not easy to pull a fast one on me. Once Steve shoved some smelling salt under my nose from passing out, I said yes.”

The two don't seem to have anything decided yet for the wedding, with Rivers declaring, "We haven’t planned anything yet. If we do a ceremony and party I can’t imagine it being any time before 2025.”

This is certainly happier news for Rivers, who publicly mourned former "high school classmate" Matthew Perry after his death on Oct. 28. In a tribute on X (formerly Twitter), Rivers wrote, "So sad. Gone too soon. RIP."
