Cincinnati native and Reds Hall of Famer Pete Rose was mentioned in many tweets Thursday related to Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani and Ohtani's interpreter, who was fired Wednesday.

Then, talk show host Jimmy Kimmel included a joke about Rose and Ohtani in his monologue during Thursday night's episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

ESPN's Tisha Thompson reported that Ippei Mizuhara, the longtime friend and interpreter for Ohtani, incurred gambling debts to a California bookmaking operation that is under federal investigation. Thompson added that at least $4.5 million in wire transfers were sent from Ohtani's bank account to that operation."

"We already here in Los Angeles have drama surrounding the Dodgers' $700 million man, Shohei Ohtani," Kimmel said. "I don't know if you heard about this. The Dodgers yesterday fired Ohtani's tranlator for allegedly stealing Ohtani's money to cover gambling debts. The guy's name is Ippei Mizuhara. He's accused of tranferring somewhere in the neighborhood of $4.5 million from Ohtani's account. Here they are together back in December. A lot of the concern is about whether he was betting on baseball with this gambling. How they wouldn't know that, I don't know. I mean, the clues were there all along. The guy even had the same haircut as Pete Rose. Shohei has not spoken to the media about this yet because they fired his interpreter. How could he?"
