Jhené Aiko, Saweetie join ‘See Us Unite for Change’ special for AAPI community

Jhené Aiko and Saweetie are joining other artists of Asian descent to take part in a TV special intended to improve advocacy for the Asian American and Pacific Islander community.

The Asian American Foundation, which formed recently to better such advocacy, on Thursday announced that Sting will also join the roster of performers at “See Us Unite for Change — The Asian American Foundation in service of the AAPI Community,” The Associated Press reports.

R&B star Aiko is part-Japanese and has gone multi-platinum with her music, including “Sativa” and “While We’re Young.” Saweetie, known for hits like “Tap In” and “Best Friend,” is of Chinese, Filipino and Black descent.

The special, hosted by Ken Jeong, will be a “first-of-its-kind global event to celebrate and pay tribute to the Asian American experience,” according to TAAF’s website.

Daniel Dae Kim and Lisa Ling are also set to appear on the special, which will feature music and comedy performances, short film packages, and speakers, according to TAAF’s site.

“‘See Us Unite for Change’ aims to inspire and educate viewers about the AAPI community’s impact on the United States and how to support on-the-ground efforts building solidarity against hate,” read the site.

R&B star Aiko, 33, is part-Japanese and has gone multi-platinum with her music, including “Sativa” and “While We’re Young.” Saweetie, 27, is known for hits like “Tap In” and “Best Friend,” and is of Chinese, Filipino and Black descent.

The special will air across MTV Entertainment platforms — including, among others, MTV, Comedy Central, VH1 and Nickelodeon — on May 21 and stream on Facebook Watch.
