Jets vs. Commanders predictions: Our expert picks for NFL Week 16 game on Christmas Eve

The Jets are back home at MetLife Stadium as they host the Washington Commanders on Christmas Eve this Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Jets are coming off perhaps their worst performance of the season Sunday as they were shut out 30-0 by the AFC East-leading Dolphins in Miami.

To make matters worse, Jets QB Zach Wilson left that game with a head injury and was still in concussion protocol as of Wednesday evening.

If the former No. 2 overall pick is unable to clear protocol, it'll likely be backup QB Trevor Siemian to start. Siemian entered Sunday's game in Miami but completed just 54 percent of his passes and threw two interceptions.

On the other side, the Commanders' comeback effort fell short in Week 15 with a 28-20 loss to the Rams at SoFi Stadium.

Our prognosticators are: Art Stapleton (Giants/NFL writer, NorthJersey.com), Bert Bainbridge (sports betting analyst/columnist, NorthJersey.com), Steve Edelson (columnist, APP.com), Vince Mercogliano (Rangers/NHL columnist, lohud.com), Brian Marron (digital producer, NorthJersey.com), Chris Iseman (Rutgers writer, NorthJersey.com), Dave Rivera (sports editor, USA Today Northeast/NorthJersey.com) and Bob Jordan (sports editor, Asbury Park Press/APP.com).

Here are the standings for our staff members going into Week 16 this weekend:

Rivera, Edelson & Iseman: 11-3

Jordan: 9-4

Marron & Mercogliano: 9-5

Bainbridge: 8-5

Stapleton: 7-6

Here are our staff predictions for Sunday's contest between the Jets and Commanders in East Rutherford:

Art Stapleton

Aaron Rodgers isn't playing Sunday. That's disappointing. Does the Jets' defense have enough motivation to knock Sam Howell around? That should matter.

The pick: Jets 14, Commanders 10

Bob Jordan

When the Jets were eliminated from making the playoffs, let's be honest: RG III had a better chance of playing in this game for the Commanders than Aaron Rodgers for the Jets.

The pick: Jets 17, Commanders 14

Bert Bainbridge

This is a tough call given the unknown status of who will be under center for the Jets with QB Zach Wilson still in concussion protocol on Wednesday. Given such a low over/under (37.5 points), this will be a race just to get double digits and I give the slight advantage to the Jets here as they get back in the win column.

The pick: Jets 13, Commanders 10

Brian Marron

With Zach Wilson likely not playing, Trevor Siemian could get the nod in what may end up being one of the most brutal games to watch all season.

Washington is certainly not great offensively, but it has shown an ability to at least score some points with a middling unit that puts up around 20 points per game. With the Jets not guaranteed to actually score a touchdown in any game they play, it's tough to pick them to beat anybody at this point.

The pick: Commanders 10, Jets 3

Dave Rivera

Aaron Rodgers is staying away from the field, because he knows how crazy it would be to line up behind that offensive line with nothing to gain. Regardless of who plays quarterback for the Jets, the final score will still be....

The pick: Commanders 16, Jets 10

Steve Edelson

The Commanders were a .500 team a year ago and looked like a wildcard contenders when the season began, while the buzz surrounding the Jets, with the addition of Aaron Rogers, was deafening. Which this a showdown of two of the most disappointing teams this season.

The pick: Jets 21, Commanders 17.

Chris Iseman

Jets fans deserve something very nice from Santa Claus when they wake up on Monday morning. Especially after being subjected to this game.

The pick: Commanders 13, Jets 7
