Jesse Eisenberg may be an award-winning actor, but his latest movie Sasquatch Sunset wasn't everyone's cup of tea.

Appearing on The Tonight Show, Eisenberg discussed his role as a member of a bigfoot family in the movie, and the response he received from a Bonobo monkey.

Which comic-book movie will make more money this year?

"The smartest nonhuman animal is the Bonobo monkey at this ape initiative in Des Moines, Iowa, named Kanzi," Eisenberg told host Jimmy Fallon. "And Kanzi watched the movie."

Sasquatch Sunset revolves around four sasquatch characters, trying to survive in the wilderness. It was described by Fallon and Eisenberg as "unusual" and "different", with the latter adding "it's absolutely brilliant, charming, funny, emotional".

According to Eisenberg, the monkey "seemingly loved this movie" at first, sitting down to watch it on a TV screen.

Fallon, upon sharing a photo of Kanzi with his arms folded, didn't seem convinced. "Kind of seems not impressed, to be honest," he pointed out.

"Well, casually, about two seconds after this beautiful shot was taken, casually, Kanzi just slammed his fist into the screen at my face," Eisenberg replied.

The actor explained the setup, explaining the Bonobo monkeys are "like five times as strong as we are", hence the "three inches of Plexiglass" protecting the screen.

"So [he] was really angry. You know, I like to think competitive," continued Eisenberg. "I think he just really likes dominating any creature [that] he can’t figure out what it is."

Despite Eisenberg's efforts, it seems even attending "sasquatch bootcamp" was not enough to please his harshest critic Kanzi.

Elsewhere in the interview, Eisenberg did manage to please fans of his hit movie Now You See Me by confirming it will be returning for a third instalment.

"The world has been asking for it, and you know, we said yes," he announced to loud cheers from the audience.
