New Jersey woman charged with Staples assault for attacking 54-year-old who just has liver surgery after being asked to wear mask: cops

A New Jersey woman was busted after violently attacking a woman, who recently had liver transplant surgery, for asking her to put on her mask, authorities said.

Terri Thomas, 25, was arrested Tuesday for the July 29th attack in a Hackensack Staples which was captured on surveillance video, police said.

The victim, 54-year-old Margot Kagan, underwent liver transplant surgery four months ago and walks with a cane, NBC 4 News reports.

Just before 3:30 p.m. she was using a copy machine at the office supply store when she noticed Thomas, who was standing near her, did not have her mask over her nose and mouth, Hackensack police said in a statement.

When Kagan asked her to put on the mask properly, “Thomas became angry, yelled at the victim, and then violently threw her to the ground,” cops said.

The woman was hospitalized after the attack and needed surgery to fix a fractured left tibia in her leg, officials said.

Thomas was charged Tuesday with aggravated assault, authorities said. She was later released and is expected to be back in court on Aug. 24th.
