Jeremy Renner Offers Mayor of Kingstown Update, 1 Year After Near-Fatal Snowplow Accident

Jeremy Renner is ready to resume his role as the figurative Mayor of Kingstown, exactly one year after the snowplow accident that nearly ended his life.

Last January 1, Renner — after using his personal Sno-Cat to help a nephew whose car was stuck in the snow, at the actor’s Lake Tahoe property — got out of the plow, which then started to roll. When Renner tried to get back in to stop the 1,400-lb. machine, it ran him over.

Renner was airlifted to a hospital, where he underwent surgery for blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries. Weeks later, following a 16-day hospital stay, Renner told his Instagram followers that he’d broken more than 30 bones in the accident.

But a year later, Renner is on the verge of returning to work for Season 3 of the Paramount+ crime thriller Mayor of Kingstown, which was greenlit in September and on which he stars as Mike McLusky, a former prison inmate whose family works as mediators between the street gangs, prisoners, guards and cops in the titular fictional Michigan town.

“I think I’m ready, I think I’m strong enough. We’ll see…,” Renner shared with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen last night on CNN’s New Year’s Eve special. “I literally go back in a week. But I’ll be doing my best, trying my hardest.” (Watch video above, starting at the 4:00 mark.)

The Taylor Sheridan-created Mayor of Kingstown‘s Season 2 finale dropped back on March 19. In addition to Renner, the series stars Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Emma Laird, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, Nishi Munshi, Hamish Allan-Headley and Aidan Gillen.

Dianne Wiest, however, will not be returning for Season 3 in her role as Mariam McLusky. Her departure was reportedly creatively driven. (As you’ll recall, Mariam was shot in the stomach in the Season 2 finale.)
