Jermey Renner attended the premiere of his new Disney+ reality series Rennervations in Los Angeles yesterday—hand in hand with his ten-year-old daughter Ava Berlin Renner.
This was The Avengers actor's first red carpet appearance since a near-fatal snow plow accident in Reno, Nevada this January left him in critical condition, with 30 broken bones and injuries necessitating multiple surgeries.
An investigation conducted by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Renner was run over by his own PistenBully snow plow. The large vehicle is typically used to remove mass amounts of snow and weighs around 14,330 pounds. After a massive snowstorm, Renner’s car was stuck in a vat of snow near his home. The actor used the snow plow to remove his car, then exited to speak with a family member. At that point, the plow began rolling backwards. According to the Washoe County Sheriff, Darin Balaam, Renner was injured while trying to corral the machine.
"In an effort to stop the rolling PistenBully, Mr.Rennner attempts to get back in the driver's seat of the PistenBully," Balaam said during a press conference. "Based on our investigation, it is at this point that Mr.Renner is run over by the PistenBully. An eyewitness detailed seeing Mr. Renner getting into the PistenBully and not seeing him again until the PistenBully came to a rest in a pile of snow in the front of his driveway."
According to Vulture, Renner's neighbor, who is a doctor, rushed to the scene to help. The neighbor applied a tourniquet to Renner’s leg in order to stop the bleeding while they waited for medical assistance. Renner was eventually airlifted to the hospital, where he made a full recovery.
"Thank you all for your kind words," the actor wrote to his Instagram following in January, alongside a photo of himself in a hospital bed. "I’m too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all."
Joined by his family this week in Los Angeles, Renner was was reportedly in good spirits and walking with a cane. In a recent interview with ABC News' Diane Sawyer, Renner stated that he hopes to "shift the narrative of being victimized or making a mistake or anything else." He said, "I refuse to be f---ing haunted by that memory that way."
