Brace yourself. The first time you see Jeremy Renner on your TV screen since his unfortunate snowplow incident earlier this month might be as a peacekeeping, drug-peddling, ex-convict “mayor” of the prison-riddled city of Kingstown, Michigan. After barely escaping a prison riot he helped knock over the dominoes to put in motion, Renner is back as all-around emotionally disturbed Mike McLusky in Season 2 of Paramount+’s corruption drama Mayor of Kingstown. And now he has an inmate power hierarchy to help rebuild.

Created by series regular Hugh Dillon and Yellowstone creator (and the man with the Paramount blank check) Taylor Sheridan, the insidious crime thriller chronicles the interplay between the police and gangsters on the streets of Kingstown and the inmates in prison. Mike McLusky inherits the burdensome title of “mayor” of Kingstown from his brother Mitch McLusky (Kyle Chandler) after he’s murdered in the first episode of the series. That should give you a good enough indication of how precarious power is in the Mayor of Kingstown; it only protects those with it from those who respect it.

Season 1 was spent with Mike trying to keep his head above water (and pools of blood). Now in Season 2, he has to clean up the mess from the prison revolt that saw a swarm of prisoners and guards slaughtered and reestablish a new order among the savages, both the ones behind bars and the ones locking them. So the question this season becomes, how long can he maintain this balancing act before he’s knocked off a pedestal he never wanted to sit on?

Where can I watch Mayor of Kingstown Season 2?

Unlike satiating your fix of the Dutton family drama on Yellowstone, you don’t need a cable subscription to tune in to Renner play mercurial mediator on Paramount Network. Each episode will be released weekly on Paramount+ every Sunday at 3 a.m. ET/12 A.M. PT starting this Sunday, January 15.

How can I watch Season 1 and Season 2 of Mayor of Kingstown for free?

Mike McLusky and his network of criminals aren’t the only ones who can circumvent the rules for their selfish gain. You can pay either $4.99/month for the Essential subscription package on Paramount+ and watch Mayor of Kingstown with ads or the $9.99 premium tier with no ads and the ability to download episodes to watch on your commute to work. Or, if you don’t mind a little delayed gratification, you can start a free seven-day trial of Paramount+ and binge all the episodes available before canceling your subscription. Unfortunately, only Season 1 is released in full, so you’d have to wait a few months until Season 2 finishes to watch both for free.

Mayor of Kingstown is both worth the wait and a thrilling ride to keep up with if you can. Plus, who doesn’t want to see Renner be a scumbag with a heart of stolen gold?
