'Jeopardy!' Fans Slams Most 'Unfair Clue' That Cost Contestant Daily Double

Jeopardy! fans voiced their frustration after a confusing clue lost contestant Arthur Chu a Daily Double.

During the Tuesday, March 26, episode, which is part of the ongoing Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament, contestants Chu, David Madden and MacKenzie Jones faced off. When it got to the second Daily Double, Chu had a chance to get a significant lead on the others as he bet $10,000.

The video question showed a stringless violin and the text: "It describes someone weakened by nerves, and also the instrument here." As the clock ticked down for Chu to answer, he couldn't come up with anything.

The answer was "What is unstrung?" and host Ken Jennings replied, "You had to notice the violin was unstrung...That's tough."

Clearly, fans felt the same way, as many disagreed with the clue while talking about the show online. One viewer took to a discussion on the Jeopardy! subreddit and said, "That DD that Arthur missed was one of the most unfair clues I can remember."

They argued about the competitors trying to answer the question, "They're not going to look for a distinguishing feature, like missing strings ffs, and describe that. Just a terrible terrible clue."

Others agreed, calling it "dumb" and "really really bad," with one also noting that they couldn't even see that the violin was unstrung while watching the show on television at home.

It seemed like the odd clue was made worse by the fact that it was a Daily Double, as a fan pointed out, "Excusable if it wasn't a DD, but this was a DD that cost someone a spot in the semis."

Chu was ahead at the end of the first round, but his mess-up with the Daily Double in the second round led him to fall to second place. Although he got the Final Jeopardy question right, he lost the game to Madden.
