'Jeopardy!' Fans Bash Confusing Clue That Led to a Triple Miss

The Final Jeopardy clue for a recent Jeopardy! episode completely stumped all three contestants, leading fans to question the "unusual" word choice for a certain landmark.

On the Feb. 15 episode of the popular game show, contestants Diandra D'Alessio, James Tyler and David Bederman were given the Final Jeopardy clue, "The distance between its 2 legs at ground level is 630 feet, making it as wide as it is tall," under the "Landmarks" category.

Both D'Alessio and Bederman guessed the Eiffel Tower, while Tyler guessed Christ the Redeemer, both of which were wrong, with the actual answer being the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri. Going into the last round, D'Alessio was in the lead, and she made a small wager compared to Tyler and Bederman, winning the game despite getting the final question wrong.

After the episode, fans discussed the final clue online, with some taking issue with how it referred to the arch as having "legs." One fan said in the Reddit discussion, "I’m guessing 'legs' is just a very unusual way to describe what they meant? It’s not the first word I’d use - 'ends' maybe?"

Another fan shared how the particular wording led them to second-guess the correct answer, commenting, "Gateway Arch was my gut reaction as well, but then I became worried that it doesn't really have 'legs.'"

It seemed like others agreed with the apprehension about the word choice, although someone noted that the Gateway Arch is described as having "legs" on the official National Park Service website.

On the other hand, Jeopardy! fans on X didn't understand how the contestants got the question wrong, with one writing, "The fact that two very good Jeopardy contestants said 'The Eiffel Tower' to this has blown my mind. Possibly the worst final Jeopardy answer I have seen, it missed on both parts of the question! 🤦."

"What about two legs don’t you get? #jeopardy," someone else bluntly responded.

In the end, the Final Jeopardy question didn't greatly alter the result, with D'Alessio coming in first with a total win of $23,599.
