J-Lo's The Mother has set a new Netflix recordNetflix

Jennifer Lopez's The Mother was released on Netflix last week and has already set a big record for the streaming service.

Data provided by Netflix's Top 10 website reveals that the film has been viewed for 83.71 million hours across its opening weekend. (The website lists stats for the week between May 8 and May 14, but The Mother only came out on May 12.)

That's an impressive number — and one that's broken the record for Netflix's biggest first weekend for 2023, beating out the 65.92 million viewing hours Luther: The Fallen Sun racked up during its opening weekend in February.

If you haven't seen the assassin thriller yet, you might be wondering if it's any good. Well, Digital Spy reviewed the film and we thought it was a very good, if slightly daft, piece of action.

"Lopez — who rarely gets the acting credit she deserves — is extremely watchable as the resourceful, protective and even brutal (she hits people with a fist wrapped in barbed wire!) heart of the movie, and her scenes with screen daughter Paez are enjoyably unsentimental, too," our review reads.

"While we could have done with a bit more scene-chewing from a growling Joseph Fiennes, in the end this is Lopez's movie from start to finish."

Lopez has been on a personal and professional roll lately. Not only does she have a hit movie under her belt, but she also rekindled her romance with Ben Affleck and tied the knot with him last year.

"I would say we learned our lesson the first time," she said of the difference between their first and second chances at love. "To hold it sacred...

"There's a part of it that, yes, we're together. But there's a part of it that's not, you know, being so open the way we were when we were so young and in love many years ago."

The Mother is available to stream now on Netflix.
