Jefferson, SMCC girls and Milan boys big winners in Huron League

NEWPORT – Milan and Jefferson were the big winners Tuesday in a Huron League track and field quad held at Jefferson.

Milan’s boys beat Jefferson 66-62, Flat Rock 73-55 and Airport 79-49. Airport eclipsed Jefferson 67-61 and Flat Rock 76-52. Jefferson toped Flat Rock 82-46.

For the girls, Jefferson topped Milan 96-29, Flat Rock 93-35 and Airport 84-44. Flat Rock nipped Milan 65-63, Milan slipped past Airport 66-61 and Airport knocked off Flat Rock 76-52.

Milan’s boys racked up a lot of points in the relays, winning three of four.

Adam Johnson, Virgile Gruwez-Guinet and Noah Bussell all had a trio of firsts for the Big Reds. Johnson won the 200 and 400 meters and ran on the winning 1,600 relay. Bussell (long jump) and Gruwez-Guinet (100) each won an individual event and helped two relays win.

Other relay members were Nolan Matley, Gavin Tomecek, Warren Pietryka and Braeden Lerette.

Airport’s winners were Callum Bell (800) and Matt Foor (shot-put)

Jefferson’s Michael Armetta swept the hurdles and teammate Orion Galloway took the 1,600 and ran with Nolan West, William Steinhour and Gabe Gelso on the winning 3,200 relay. Ben Merkel claimed the top spot in the high jump.

Flat Rock got wins from Jacob Stanislawski (3,200) and Isaac Arredondo (discus).

Katie Powell had a big day for Jefferson’s girls, winning the 100, 200 and long jump individually and running a leg on the winning 800 relay.

That was one of the relay wins for the Bears. Alyssa Masserant, Lindsay Masserant, Anna Boggs, Mia Schroeder, Kim Miller, Lauryn St. Bernard, Riley Peer and Jenna Pilachowski also were part of winning relays.

Layla Tahmouch triumphed in both throws and Alyssa Masserant (400), Pilachowski (3,200) and Schroeder (low hurdles) logged individual wins.

Courtney Bovair crossed the line first in the 800 and1,600 and Sydney Mason ruled the high hurdles for Airport.

Milan’s Malea Wourman won the high jump and ran with Marissa Beck, Aubrey Stuebben and Angelina Wilson on the winning 400 relay.

TRACK AND FIELD

SMCC girls win three

NEW BOSTON – St. Mary Catholic Central’s girls swept through Riverview 90-38, New Boston Huron 78-50 and Grosse Ile 80-47 in a Huron League quad meet Tuesday.

Adela Illes (100, 200) and Bella LaFountain (800, 1,600) both won two events and ran on two relays. Juleigh Husby (3,200) and MaryAlice Lynch (high hurdles) also won individual events.

The Kestrels took the 400 (Lynch, Ashley Ruhlig, Jessica Costlow, Illes), 1,600 (Macy Carlton, Ruhligh, Illes, Bella LaFountain) and 3,200 (Carlton, Claire Lisker, Samantha LaFountain, Bella LaFountain) relays.

Huron lost to Grosse Ile 68-60 and Riverview 71-56.

The Chiefs won the 800 relay with Lily Bermudez, Brielle Musallam, Avery Turk and Savenna Rupnow.

New Boston Huron’s boys beat Grosse Ile 92-36 and SMCC 110-17, but fell 77-51 to Riverview.

SMCC also lost to Riverview 113-15 and Grosse Ile 79-48.

Dylan Hudkins swept the hurdles for Huron, which also got wins from Hunter Mihal (400) and Luke Dulecki (3,200) along with the 1,600 relay (Shaun Folkwein, Kyle Biller, Vit Ulman, Mihal).

PREP SOFTBALL

Jets rally past SMCC

MONROE – Airport scored three times in the fifth inning and three more in the seventh to come from behind for a 6-2 win over St. Mary Catholic Central Tuesday.

Raschel Weaver carried the big bat for the Jets, going 4-for-4.

Olivia Tilley, RaeAnn Drummond, and Alayna McDaniel all had two hits apiece. Tilley, McDaniel, and Weaver all had doubles.

Drummond yielded just three hits for the 18-4 Jets.

SMCC’s Tori Busen went 2-for-3 and Braelyn Runyon and Hannah Williams drove in runs.

Carlson bats wake up

TAYLOR – Gibraltar Carlson managed just one hit Monday.

The slump was short-lived as the Marauders broke loose for 15 Tuesday in a 16-5 romp over Taylor.

Addison Skinner drove in four runs and logged two hits along with Kara Ludy, Taylor Konkus and Izzy Salas. Hailey Sandusky was the winner for the 12-4 Marauders.

PREP GOLF

Tight win for Rams

GROSSE ILE – Evan Little shot a 38 to lead Flat Rock to a 165-168 victory over Grosse Ile Tuesday.

Mitchell Smith added a 41 and freshman Colin Gilleran shot 42 for the Rams.

Monroe takes third

MONROE – Southeastern Conference Red foes Chelsea (158) and Ann Arbor Huron (169) both finished ahead of Monroe (170) during a match at Carrington Golf Club Tuesday.

Aiden Coury, Jayce Hernandez and Brenden McCullough all shot 42 for Monroe.
