Jefferson, Airport, Milan shine in Huron Relays at Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI – Jefferson’s girls track and field team was hoping for a trophy Friday when it competed in the small-schools division of the Eastern Michigan Huron Relays Friday.

But the Bears got disappointing news when they arrived.

“They told us at the start they weren’t keeping team scores this year,” Jefferson coach Phil Speare said. “I’m not at all sure why they decided this year they’re not keeping team scores when that’s been a traditional meet for decades.”

Jefferson’s girls insisted that Speare keep team scores anyway. He had his girls with 79.125 points to 73 for runner-up Eastwood.

It was a good day for Monroe County Region teams.
