Jayden Quaintance, 5-star Memphis basketball recruiting target, reschedules visit | Source

Jayden Quaintance will not visit Memphis basketball when he originally planned to, a source with direct knowledge of the situation told The Commercial Appeal on Thursday.

But Quaintance will still visit the Tigers. The source said the 16-year-old, five-star recruit already has set up a new date with Penny Hardaway's program, adding that the reason behind the postponement is because "the schedules didn't work for everybody."

The 6-foot-9 power forward and former Kentucky signee, who reopened his recruitment following coach John Calipari's departure for Arkansas, initially was scheduled to visit the Tigers starting Friday. The source declined to go into specifics on the timing of the upcoming visit.

Quaintance — who doesn't turn 17 until July, making him ineligible for the NBA draft until 2026 — is ranked No. 8 in the Class of 2024 recruiting rankings by the 247Sports Composite.

Since parting ways with Kentucky, Quaintance has taken only one other visit: Louisville. But according to the source, he is planning to take at least one more visit besides Memphis, which reportedly will be Arizona State (per 247 Sports' Eric Bossi).

Earlier this week, Quaintance's father, Haminn, discussed what makes the Tigers an attractive potential landing spot for his son.

“We’re just looking for a good fit,” Haminn said. “Playing style. How (Quaintance is) used — the freedom that he has in the offense. That’ll probably be the separator.”

He also cited Hardaway's strong track record with player development.

“I know Penny personally does the development for a lot of his players,” he said. “So it doesn’t really get no better than Penny.”

Playing time is another factor.

"We're looking for a situation where we can go in and start," Haminn Quaintance said. "It's not a lot of coaches that can get the best out of these young players. Penny has had young players. He probably had one of the youngest teams in the country a couple years ago.

“There’s not a lot of guys that feel comfortable playing young players and developing young players.”
