Jasiel Correia moved to federal prison in Brooklyn, NY: Where the ex-Fall River mayor is

FALL RIVER — Convicted former Fall River mayor Jasiel Correia II has been transferred from a federal prison in Berlin, New Hampshire, where he began serving a six-year sentence in April 2022 to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Why Correia was moved to MDC Brooklyn is not known. A spokesperson at the New York prison facility said the reason for the transfer is not public information.

Correia, 31, was convicted in 2021 after a month-long trial and found guilty of 21 counts of defrauding investors in his SnoOwl app, cheating on his taxes and extorting marijuana vendors. The federal judge presiding over the trial tossed out a number of additional charges, and he was sentenced to six years in federal prison.

What is an administrative security metropolitan detention center?

Unlike the minimum to medium-security prison at the FCI Berlin facility located in the White Mountains in New Hampshire, the Bureau of Prisons identifies MDC Brooklyn as the largest administrative security metropolitan detention center in the country.

And according to the New York Times, protestors attempted to storm the prison in February 20019 after inmates were locked down in freezing conditions after a fire affected the heating system and disrupted family visitation and prompted a class action lawsuit.

Braase did not respond immediately on Tuesday afternoon on to a request for information on whether there is or was a BOP investigation related to Correia.
