Jarvis Green, LaNorris Sellers lead SC team to win in 2022 Shrine Bowl

After winning state championships earlier this month, Jarvis Green and LaNorris Sellers capped their high school football careers with a win in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.

Green, the Dutch Fork running back, scored the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter Saturday to help the South Carolina team to a 17-13 win over North Carolina at Spartanburg High School.

“Felt great you know just ending my career with a Shrine Bowl win and the victory today was just a blessing from God and I can’t wait to get to Tigertown,” Green said.

Green, the Mr. Football finalist, committed to Clemson this week. He will sign with the Tiigers on Wednesday and will enroll in June.

It was the first time the game was held since 2019, with COVID impacts canceling it in 2020 and 2021. It was also the first time the game took place at Spartanburg High.

Sellers, the South Florence quarterback won S.C. Offensive MVP honors. He was 9-of-13 passing for 123 yards and a TD. He also rushed for 41 yards.

Sellers has been eyed by USC Gamecocks football coaches for the past few months. The senior is committed to Syracuse but Shane Beamer and South Carolina are making a late push.

Beamer is supposed to have an in-home visit with Sellers on Saturday night, the last day coaches can meet with recruits before the early signing day this Wednesday. Sellers told reporters after the game he plans on signing either Wednesday or Thursday.

USC coaches have been preaching to Sellers about staying home while Syracuse has been pitching him to come in and play early.

“’I’m really thinking about it and end up doing what’s best for me,” Sellers said.

Sellers had a hand in SC’s first TD when he hit Clemson commit Tyler Brown on 55-yard TD to put the Sandlappers up 10-7 in the third quarter.

Sellers and Spartanburg’s Raheim Jeter each had two big completions on the game-winning drive. Green capped off the drive with a 1-yard run to make 17-13 with 4:40 left.

Green, a Clemson commit, finished with team-high 58 yards rushing and also caught three passes.

South Carolina forced a three-and-out after their late touchdown and was able to run clock out. Sellers had an 8-yard run for first down to end the game.

Wando linebacker Mikey Rosa was S.C. Defensive MVP. He had a team-high seven tackles. Northwestern WR Elijah Caldwell led the SC with four catches for 61 yards.
