  • Jamie Lee Curtis got emotional in a new interview while reflecting on how the Halloween franchise impacted her career.

  • She said she “would’ve never found any success” if not for her role as Laurie Strode.

  • Her final Halloween movie, Halloween Ends, released on October 14.

When Jamie Lee Curtis booked her feature film debut as Halloween’s Laurie Strode at age 19, she could have never dreamt the incredible career ahead, let alone the franchise’s 11 subsequent films. Now at 63, as a loving fanbase enjoys her culminating hours as Strode in Halloween Ends, Curtis can’t help but reflect on the opportunities the experience has presented over the years. In fact, she believes she would have never found success if not for the iconic horror films.

“Every time I talk about it, I cry because of what it’s given me,” she recently told Tracy Smith on CBS Sunday Morning, moving herself to tears. “My entire life is because of Laurie Strode. I don’t know what would’ve happened. I know I would’ve never found any success. And that, just the fact that people cared about her so much. It’s powerful to have that. Incredible respect, I have for it. And I feel very honored by it. And proud.”

According to IMDb, after her first day on set, young Curtis was so disappointed with her performance that she was convinced she would be fired. It was to her pleasant surprise that director John Carpenter called her that night to congratulate her on how well she did. And the rest was history.

In a July interview with People, Curtis recounted shooting her emotional final scenes as Strode. “Well, you know, endings are a b*tch, and endings are very difficult to do in a very satisfying way,” she said. “The last shot [filmed] was [part of] a night shoot and I was in a car—it was a close-up of me in the car. And when we got out of the car, it was 4:30 in the morning and there was the picture of my face on the screen.”

She continued: “And I realized that was the last image of Laurie Strode after 44 years of portraying her. Isn’t that amazing? And it felt very satisfying. I think people are going to lose their minds ... I think people will be very satisfied with the movie, and I think they will be very moved.”

It’s safe to say they were, considering dozens of fans sent doting messages to the star thanking her for her Halloween legacy. In a video posted to the franchise’s Instagram, Curtis reacted tearfully to the support.

“Thank you, guys,” she said. “It’s obviously hard, all of it is hard—saying goodbye, and nobody wants to say that. So, I won’t say that. I am just going to say thank you.”

So much for a “happy” Halloween. 🥺
