Jamie Foxx Gives Surprise Health Update

Jamie Foxx

Jamie Foxx is getting back on his feet—literally.

The singer, actor and comedian made a surprise appearance Monday at the Critics Choice Association‘s Celebration of Cinema & Television Honoring Black, Latino & AAPI Achievements. This was his first official public outing since he was hospitalized for a mystery illness in April.

Deadline reports that Foxx spoke for about 12 minutes and got emotional as he accepted the event's Vanguard Award for his performance in Prime Video's The Burial.

Foxx didn't elaborate on his exact health issue but said "I couldn’t actually walk” six months ago.

“I want to thank everybody," he said. "I’ve been through something, I’ve been through some things,” he said, visibly pausing to regain his composure during his acceptance speech.

“I cherish every single minute now—it’s different,” he said. “It's beyond. I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy because it’s tough when it’s almost over … when you see the tunnel."

Foxx hasn't lost his comedic timing even amid grave circumstances. His earnest speech was sprinkled with moments of levity.

"I saw the tunnel—I didn’t see the light. It was hot in that tunnel. I didn't know here was I was going. Am I going to right place?” he asked.

This was the most detail we've gotten since Foxx thanked supporters in an August Instagram post.

"Finally startin to feel like myself," Fox, wrote in the post that showed photos that appeared to be an exotic locale. He was wearing sunglasses and a crocheted hat. "It’s been an unexpected dark journey"

"But I can see the light… I’m thankful to everyone that reached out and sent well wishes and prayers… I have a lot of people to thank… u just don’t know how much it meant… and if you didn’t know… GOD IS GOOD… all day every day"

Foxx's daughter Corinne has previously updated fans in an Instagram Story on May 12 that said the comedian had been released from the hospital.

"Update from the family: Sad to see how the media runs wild. My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating," Corinne, 29, wrote on Instagram. She harshly dismissed reports that claimed the family was preparing for "the worst."

"In fact," she said, "he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone's prayers and support! We have an exciting work announcement coming next week too!"

Her statement didn't give any additional insight into the "medical complication" that the notoriously private star had faced.

Foxx's hospitalization was first announced on April 11 via another Instagram post by his daughter, Corinne.

The actor, comedian and singer was said to be recovering from the unspecified health issue, but in early May, those close to Foxx reportedly asked for prayers, causing many to worry about the star's condition. On May 3, Foxx posted a quick note to Instagram thanking fans for their support, but again, providing no details on his condition or recovery.

Here's what we know so far about Foxx's medical emergency, as well as updates on his recovery so far.
